In room 228, Mr. Patrick Reed took a break from daily lecturing on the note packets and allowed students an opportunity to bring their learning to life. On Feb. 23, Mr. Reed’s second hour brought out medical equipment and practiced taking each other’s blood pressure. Through some trial and error, they learned how to effectively take the blood pressure of their peers. It took many attempts for some, as it was necessary to find a heartbeat in a specific place, made difficult by a louder classroom environment. Senior Adam Miller took part in taking blood pressure in preparation for the upcoming test, and it was a helpful source of learning for him.
“I’m a hands-on learner, so being able to hear systolic versus diastolic helped me be able to visualize what I was writing down on paper,” he said.
The anatomy students will take the second part of their test on Tuesday, March 3, then they will continue on with other units.
Under Pressure
Senior Adam Miller places a blood pressure cuff around the arm of senior Oliver Robins in preparation to take blood pressure on Feb. 23. Before taking each other’s blood pressure students were instructed by Mr. Reed to put the cuff on loose enough to fit one finger inside comfortably, but not so loose that it would fall down.
