The stories, the news, the videos, all these things that keep the Spartan community informed comes from room 139. The publication classes offered vary on the things students will cover, such as Digital Photojournalism, Yearbook, Broadcast, Journalism, and the foundation, Newspaper. In the beginning of the year each student chooses a role they would like to pursue such as a photographer or writer. This video is to give a look into what a normal day would look like in newspaper.
The editors will start class each day by announcing “circle up,” which lets the staff know when to gather around and listen to the agenda for that specific day. Following their instructions they will begin to work on their tasks at hand, this can include galleries, web-stories, print-stories, social media, or any projects that are assigned. It’s mandatory for photographers to submit a photo to be critiqued in class every other Wednesday. Photographers will meet near the smart board to watch and give input while each photographer gets up to explain their photo.
Newspaper is a fast paced, high communication, and collaborative class, students gain many skills when working with one another. When it comes to obtaining interviews, students begin to come out of their comfort zones and this class can help students learn more about their creative side. Each day in newspaper can look different but it remains an organized and structured class students look forward to when entering room 139.
