Boys improve to 7-1 record

Taking first place at the Hazelwood West tri-meet on Monday, the varsity boys swim team now sits on a season record of 7-1.

Over the past week, the team also faced Howell North in a dual meet. Head Coach Andrew Morgan said there were no breakthrough swims at this meet. Instead, he said the most impressive performances at the meet were from the divers; freshman Brendan Brause was only 1.7 points away from a state qualification and freshman Eric Macy improved his score as well. The team also competed in the Zumwalt West Relays on Saturday, which was just a fun meet, according to Coach Morgan, where the team got to swim in relays and other events not swam in normal meets.

Coach Morgan and the team are now looking ahead to Saturday when they will compete in the Fort Zumwalt North Invitational.

“This is the last big meet before GAC championships, and all the area teams will be there,” Coach Morgan said. “Every team usually swims with [its] strongest line up, so it’s a good chance for us to see what our competition will be like at conference. There should be some really good races for the top places from our team this year.”

Based on preliminary information, the Spartans have six swimmers seeded in the top three spots of the individual races and two varsity relay teams seeded first going into the meet.
