The varsity boys tennis team finished in fourth place in the GAC tournament last week at Troy-Buchanan High School. The team scored six out of the possible 13 medals. Individual medalists include junior Neel Kothari, who placed first in the #5 singles match; senior Derek Hoerman, who took second in the #4 singles match; and sophomore Sean Nanney, who finished in third place in the #1 singles match.
On the doubles side, the doubles teams of Nanney and senior Justin Arndt; junior Ryan Pham and Derek Hoerman; and junior Alex Hunsel and sophomore Jack Rodell all finished in third place in their divisions.
While important, GACs have no impact on the team’s chances for a state title.
“The GAC tournament has no connection to the district tournament,” said Head Coach Don Lober. “Districts are a separate deal.”
The team will play in a team district tournament today against Fort Zumwalt South. The winner of today’s match will go on to play Francis Howell North later in the week. The top two singles players and doubles teams will compete in the individual district tournament on Saturday at Fort Zumwalt East.
