Close game ends in Spartan victory

As the final buzzer sounded, the score of the game was 3-3, but going into the third period, Duchesne came out strong taking the lead. For the Spartans to win, they now needed to make two goals.

“We fought back and scored the tying goal half way through the period,” Coach Tom Mueller said. “Duchesne had to win the game to extend the series, so they pulled the goaltender for the extra attacker.”

By taking this chance, Duchesne left an open net for the Spartans to score and take the lead. Although they were hoping their defenders would be enough, senior Brandon Olson scored into the empty net to win the game 5-4 and complete his hat trick.

The Spartans next games will be against Whitfield on the 24th and 25th at 3:15p.m. located at the Hardees Ice Complex.

“If we win that series we will go to the Scott Trade Center to play for the Wickenheiser Cup Championship,” Coach Mueller said.
