Last year, the boys basketball team finished with a 11-16 record. This year, they look to go back to their winning ways despite losing some seniors from last year, such as Ryan Miller and Matt Lundberg. Senior Derrick Puni believes that although the team had it’s struggles last year, they are ready for a much better season.
“We’re looking to improve on our chemistry and just playing more as a team,” Puni said. Puni, who hurt his wrist during the season, says he is very excited for basketball this year.
This past week, the basketball team had their tryouts to determine who makes it to the varsity squad and according to Puni, the participants were quite impressive.
“Tryouts went well,” Puni said. “There weren’t too many new people that tried out, but everybody was working hard and trying to get ready for the season.”
Losing seniors from the previous year can be tough for some teams, but Puni believes the basketball team will be just fine.
“Luckily we only lost three seniors, but two of them were starters for us, so that means that we’re going to all have to step up and try to fill their spots,” Puni explained.
The players who passed the tryouts were announced this past friday. The following players made it past the tryouts are as follows: seniors Puni, Luke McDonald, Terel Tipton, Jeff Desir, and Ryan Howard, along with juniors Trey Curry, Justin Hayden, Cam Stroh, Blake Kreder, Myrion Smith, Eddie Wyatt, and Jordan Scott.
