After recovering from senior Kristin Warncke’s early season injury, the girls basketball team has struggled to keep the rest of the team healthy. Seniors Grace Wade, Katy Gerler and Bri Brickson have all been injured and the team has had to learn to play without them.
Gerler will be sitting out in the game tonight in order to let her body rest and Brickson can’t play for two weeks because of a broken finger. Wade, on the other hand, will be playing through knee pain until the end of the season.
Sophomore Haley Allen, along with the rest of the younger team, knows the holes left by the injured seniors need to be filled quickly because districts are quickly approaching.
“All four of our seniors aren’t completely healthy and a lot of people are going to have to step up and play a bigger role, especially with Katy not playing [tonight],” Allen said.
The girls will battle Fort Zumwalt West tonight at 5:30 p.m. after a loss on Jan. 22. According to Allen, the team has high hopes and will be playing their hardest without Gerler, their starting point guard.
“Last time we lost and it was a close game. Hopefully we will be able to pull through without Katy,” Allen said. “We know we could have beat them and they are definitely a team we can play with.
