Sectional qualifiers fall short
After the girls golf team wrapped up their season last Monday at the sectional tournament at Innsbrook, where qualifiers freshman Emma Wolf and Junior Mackenzie McDowell all competed to qualify for the prestigious state tournament. Both fell short of making it, with Wolf off by 18 strokes and McDowell by just 6.
“Emma Wolf had a tough day, but it was a great experience for her to compete in that type of tournament as only a freshman,” said Coach John Miller.
According to Wolf, nerves also played a factor in her performance.
“I was really nervous for the meet and I think that’s what got to me,” said Wolf.
Coach Miller saw the meet as a good experience for the young golfer.
“When she is back in this position a year from now, she will know what to expect,” said Coach Miller.
As for McDowell, she got off to a slow start but eventually gained momentum, however she ran out of holes to make up the ground she’d lost.
“[It was a] tough end to a good season for both golfers, but hopefully this experience drives them to work hard on their games in the off season and come out firing on all cylinders next season,” said Coach Miller.
