The students in the fifth hour Jazz Band come together every day to make music, but every Tuesday they hold a special improvisation class, where students can let their creative sides shine. Even still, improvisation can be very stressful, and students need to use everything they’ve learned to keep calm, as sophomore Julian Rodriguez knows very well.
“How can I use what I was taught today in the best way possible, [to] not put any stress on myself?” Rodriguez normally asks himself. “Knowing that [jazz class] is a safe space is one of the best things to help me stay calm during a solo.”
The jazz program is looking forward to its next performance on Nov. 2 at 7 p.m. in the auditorium, where the Jazz Ensemble will be showcasing their small ensembles for anyone who wants to enjoy good music.
