The varsity boys basketball team has improved over the past week, winning two out of three games and placing in third in the Gene Steighorst Tournament, after having a record of 1-1 last week before the tournament.
The team lost to Hillsboro High School Friday night by a score of 46-45, but finished the tournament strong with a decisive 62-56 victory over Festus High School Saturday night. This victory allowed the team to earn a third place finish in the tournament.
Finally, the team traveled to and defeated the Wolves of Timberland Monday night by a score of 70-61. Coach Larry Anders is satisfied with how the team is performing offensively, according to senior guard Paul Haluszczak, although he would like the team to work harder on defense.
“[Coach Anders] is glad we’re scoring, but he wants us to work harder on defense and free-throw shooting,” said Haluszczak.
The team will play its first home game Friday night against Washington High School at 7 p.m.
