After winning a close 31-29 match against the 4-2 Indians of Wentzville Holt high school, the then 3-0 Spartans took to the mat against the Warriors of St. Charles West. Riding the undefeated dual match records of seniors Andrew Buffa and Brandon Wilbourn, the Spartans found themselves on the winning end of a 47-24 match.
The Spartans entered the Gateway Athletic Conference tournament with a perfect 4-0 dual match record, but were only able to place 3rd in the tournament that in the past years they had been so successful in.
“Unfortunately we were missing a lot of key wrestlers,” said Head Coach Steve Cross. “That isn’t an excuse to do poorly, but it was a tough obstacle to overcome.”
Now with the State tournament just a month away, the team looks to rebound from a tough GAC tournament with wins in its upcoming dual meets against Fort Zumwalt West tomorrow and then against Troy on the 28th.
