During an annual field trip with her AP Art History class, Mrs. Michelle McCune took her students to the St. Louis Basilica, also known as the “Rome of the West” because of its beautiful architecture, art, and mosaics, on Nov. 17. This trip follows along with what the students are studying with Mrs. McCune.
“I think it’s really helpful to see examples of these artworks in person,” said McCune. “I love getting a chance to see some of my students experience such a beautiful and sacred place for the first time.”
As her classes move on from early Christian art and into the Romanesque period, Mrs. McCune plans to find more local examples of the unique art styles showcased throughout art history. Next semester, she will take her classes on their second annual field trip to the St. Louis Art Museum to further their understanding of newer aged art.
