The shared experience of playing high school basketball for the first time has a different effect on each team, bringing some together and leading to struggles for others. For the freshman boys basketball team, it has led to abundant success. On Jan. 13, the team faced St. Dominic at 5 p.m. and prevailed with a score of 54-20. With a record of 11-1 with all 11 of those wins coming in the past 11 games and a majority of the games won by 10 points or more, the season is shaping up to be very successful for the Spartans. But even with the high level of performance this winter, the team must be constantly improving and preparing for a higher level of play next season. Freshman Hayden Elery, a guard for the team has plans for the upcoming offseason and the coming years.Â
“I’ll play for YAAU teams and still play for the Spartans…I’ll play more competitive teams so when I improve, I can come back to the Spartans and play better,” Elery said.
The Spartans play next on Jan. 21 at 5:15 p.m. at Fort Zumwalt West High School against the Jaguars.
