Facing the Saint Charles West Warriors, the boys varsity basketball team emerged victorious in the competitive matchup. On Jan. 20 at Francis Howell Central high school, the Spartans secured a narrow victory. With seconds remaining on the clock, the West Warriors had tied the score and made way for overtime. Nonetheless, the Spartans managed to score as the buzzer hit zero and won the game 59-57. Knowing they were facing a ranked opponent, the team expected the game to be tough. For junior Ryan Halterman, the victory ultimately proved the Spartans’ ability to compete against stronger teams and pull through under pressure.
“It was a really important win to show that we can still beat some tough teams,” said Halterman. “Jack Brown hitting that buzzer beater was huge because it let us not have to go into overtime, and when all the fans came on the court, it was really special.”
The boys’ next game will be at Fort Zumwalt South on Jan. 29 at 7:00pm.
