At the second to last game of the regular season, the Spartans played Lafayette Lancaster on Feb. 24. With an even match between teams, the Spartans fought the hardest they could but lost with a score of 61-66. The team kept the game close at all points but towards the end, the gap was too big for the Spartans to make a comeback. Although many of the players felt the weight of the loss including junior Jamarious Britt, head coach John Varner made sure to reassure his players that he’s not mad at them and this doesn’t define them.
“He said ‘keep your head up and keep going. This one loss does not define what we’ve done this whole season,’” Britt said. “He knew that we were all looking toward the conference and this game didn’t matter as much.”
The Spartans next game is March 5 this is their second round district game starting at 7pm and will be held at home against Howell.
