On Feb. 17, the varsity basketball team had a cancer out game in honor of student Drew Schmidt, who is battling Leukemia. Students who attended the game collectively wore orange in support of Schmidt and raised $1116 to help with his medical costs. Mrs. Fetsch, a math teacher who previously battled Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia, shared her story during half-time at the game. She shared her struggles with the students and how it was important to support Schmidt during this hard time.Â
“Cancer is like COVID times a million. Like every day, I think, is it gonna come back? It’s something that nobody should ever have to go through, especially somebody young and vibrant and full of life” Said Fetsch.
The varsity basketball team moves on to their second playoff game on March 5.
