In the first game of the the Challenge Cup finals, the Spartans defeated Seckman with a final score of 6-2. Senior forward Jalen Krogman scored three of the six goals, followed by junior forward Chase Rey with two goals and a sixth goal by sophomore Brendan Martak.
“I think overall we played well as a team,” said Rey. “Everyone played really well even down to our third line.”
The game against Seckman was the first of three games for the first round of the finals. The two teams will battle it out for a second time tonight at the St. Peters Rec-Plex at 8:30 p.m. If the Spartans win, they will move on to the next round of the finals, where they will play the winner of the match up between FHN and MICDS. Rey anticipates a win for the game tonight.
“I know we have more skill,” said Rey. “Hopefully ‘Grabber’, our goalie, is ready to play and we’ll get the ‘W’.”
After the final game against Seckman, the Spartans could play three more rounds before the Challenge Cup at the Scottrade Center.
