With ten state qualifiers, the wrestling team has been preparing for the state meet at the University of Missouri Feb. 17-19.
“The entire season has been working up to this point,” said Head Coach Steven Cross. “Now we are just doing some fine tuning with short and intense practices.”
The wrestlers who qualified include senior Ben Henson (119), sophomore John Wood (135), senior Terrel Wilbourn (140), senior Justin Dickey (145), senior Andy King (152), senior Luke Knoche (160), senior Matt Greene (171), senior Wyatt Miller (189), junior Cole Anderson (215) and senior Brian Paur (heavyweight). Although some of these wrestlers have been out for part of the season due to injury, they are all back on the mats ready to wrestle, according to Coach Cross.
“We have been top five the past six years, and we placed third last year,” said Coach Cross. “I think it adds a good pressure on [the wrestlers].”
State wrestling will be held in Columbia this weekend starting Thursday night.
“We will weigh-in at 4 [p.m.] and start wrestling at 6 [p.m.],” said Coach Cross.
Thursday night will consist of each wrestler wrestling one dual if they win and two duals if they do not.
