Rain strikes out Spartans

The baseball team has had one game cancelled and is expecting more this week, due to the excessive rain. The team has only been able to practice indoors, which has affected the the team, according to Coach Ray Howard.

“It’s hard to keep the boys focused and motivated when you aren’t playing on a field,” said Coach Howard.

Senior second baseman Dylan Schindler thinks it also affects the team’s strategy.

“You don’t know when you are going to play a certain game against a certain team,” said Schindler. “It really makes it hard to prepare mentally.”

Along with having the mentality to win games, the team has also gained the mentality to play its best. The boys have just reached a fifth place ranking in the area, according to Schindler. Although this is a huge accomplishment for the boys, Coach Howard is concerned about the team losing focus.

“We can’t read too much into the rankings,” said Coach Howard. “We have to keep our minds on the game and show up to play.”

The Spartans next game is supposed to be April 26 against Vianney, but due to the inclement weather, the games this week are likely to be cancelled according to Coach Howard.
