Ultimate Frisbee plays final games of the season
Saturday and Sunday, May 7 and 8, the Spartan Ultimate Frisbee team played in the state championships. The team played five games, winning four out of five. When they played against DeSmet, they lost with a score of 4-15. Against Kirkwood in the finals, the score was 17-1 in their favor; CBC lost to the Spartans with a score of 17-2; in the quarter finals against Parkway North, the Spartans won with 15-2; and in the semi finals, SLUH lost with a score of 15-9.
The final two events planned for the team are the League All Star and Alumni.
Alumni is a game in which graduated Spartans come back to play a recreational game. The League All Star will consist of two players, chosen by the coach of each Ultimate Frisbee team in Saint Louis. Coach Jason Becker plans to send seniors Wesley Groth and Emmanuel Rivera to compete in this game.
“It’s kind of more of a fun thing,” said Coach Becker.
However, for next year, twelve of the team’s players will be graduating. According to Coach Becker, the next season will be based on rebuilding the team. In order to assure a solid team, he is working on starting getting a team together earlier than normal.
“[We will] meet next fall to help recruit players,” said Coach Becker.
According to Coach Becker, this season’s team was a special group of kids.
“It will be a long time before I get another group that is as dedicated and sportsman-like,” said Coach Becker.
