Trojans take down the Spartans

District play opened for the varsity baseball team with a loss as the Spartans fell to Troy by a score of 6-0. According to Coach Ray Howard, the team just did not come to play on Tuesday night.

“We just didn’t seem like we could get things going and I don’t know if we were mentally ready to play,” Coach Howard said. “They [Troy] just out hit us and out played us.”

The loss was unusual for the Spartans, who are currently ranked fourth in the St. Louis area, according to stltoday.com’s rankings. The team hopes to bounce back on Thursday when it faces Rockwood Summit.

“It was one of those games it seems like every team has and we are just looking to put it behind us and look forward to our next game,” Coach Howard said.

The schedule will become increasingly difficult as district play comes in full swing, with games against Francis Howell and Holt occurring in the next week.

“It is all about whoever gets hot at the right time now,” Coach Howard said. “Hopefully we are playing our best ball come playoff time.”
