Mixed emotions
On April 6, the FHC track team made their way to University City High School for the Charlie Beck Invitational meet. However, the meet did not go as well as many would have liked.
Senior Joe McDevitt, who was slated to have quite a season, expressed his disappointment in the results.
“[At] U-City I had a bad meet. I got like 148 in disc and 43 in shot.” McDevitt said. “I just had three meets that week, and started developing bad habits from not having hardly any practice last week.”
In fact, the track team had been to three other meets on April 2, 3, and 4, leaving little room for practice and training.
However, coach Robert Breuer has a different outlook on things, preferring to remain positive in the face of the meet.
“ The weather has not been our friend this year, causing meets to be cancelled or issued new dates,” Mr. Breuer said. However, not all hope is lost. “They will clean some things up with their handoffs and we should see a couple of records become theirs! We are working hard each day to compete well in the upcoming state series.”
As for the girls, Mr. Breuer is also optimistic, looking forward to what some promising girls will do.
“Our girls’ team is being held together by senior leaders Kaela Henry and Destinee Corrigan. We are also excited about Luta Young who is a versatile athlete in any event we put her in,” Mr. Breuer said.
