Out of the gate
The boys cross country team’s meet at McNair park is the season’s first 5k, and the results are in. Representing the boys varsity Spartans were seniors P.J. Brown and Corey Blase, juniors Mitchell Devening , Justin Hoth, and Jake Drnec and sophomore Nate Limbaugh.
“The course at McNair was different than the one we were used to,” said Devening. “The weather was not as bad as the first [meet] but it was still pretty hot.”
Brown took 11th place out of the 72 runners, and clocked in at an 18:07; an average mile time of 5:49.
A four year veteran of the cross country team, Brown also attended the training held during the summer.Brown attributes his success to simple hard work.
“I haven’t been doing anything special this year,” Brown said. “[I’ve] just been training hard.”
Brown ended last season with a best time of 18:01, and his early success at McNair means a promising start to the season.
“My goal this year is to make it to state,” Brown said.
According to Devening, times usually decrease as the year progresses, so it can be expected to be a successful year for Brown.
