Silly Speech and Debate

Nervous laughter filled a room as members of the Speech and Debate team practiced for their upcoming events. On mondays and thursdays, the members meet in Mrs. Baize’s room before and after school to prepare and practice.

Although many outsiders may view Speech and Debate as nerve wracking and rigid, Senior and president Eli Allen feel that Speech and Debate provides him a home and is able to further his and other members education outside of the classroom.

“[Speech and Debate] will give [newcomers] an opportunity to not only improve their writing and speaking but for me, it has given me an atmosphere where I feel welcome and homely,” said Allen. “It’s good to have a place where you can fit in.”

Speech and Debate will have a tournament on Friday Nov. 1 at Francis Howell North.Ann-
