Every sport involves intense training and commitment in order to get better, but many argue that wrestling demands a significant amount of grit than others. The wrestling team is constantly on the lookout for those who would want to join, as they require many levels of different weight classes to be able to compete in tournaments. The Rookie Wonder Woman tournament on Nov. 22 was one of many that was exclusively available to lower-class athletes, as well as girls only. This tournament was the first of the season, introducing the athletes who haven’t wrestled before, to how the sport works. Freshman Tiana Beach is a newcomer to wrestling, and expresses her feelings about wrestling compared to sports she has done in the past.
“[Wrestling] is much different than [other sports], you need dedication and hard work to see results,” Beach said. “You have to be strong mentally and physically so [it] doesn’t tear you down.”
Their next duel with boys and girls together will be against Fort Zumwalt North at the Panthers’ gym, starting at 5 p.m.
