Wrestling matches against schools from anywhere are often nerve-racking in general, but for Francis Howell Central, this dual was one where everything was on the line. The wrestling team has worked for their whole season to get the championship GAC title, which includes Francis Howell, Francis Howell North, Fort Zumwalt West, Liberty, and Troy. On Jan. 21, the Central coaches and team were laced with excitement and nervousness. Winning this dual would give them the privilege of being named GAC South Champs. The results of this dual was a win for the boys and a loss for the girls.Â
“[After losses], I try to clear my mindset, figure out what I did wrong, and fix it,” freshman Seth Nichols said. “[So I don’t get too confident], I convince myself that [my opponents] are bigger and stronger than I am, and it usually works.”
Their next dual will be against Fort Zumwalt South on Jan. 28, preceding tournaments which will determine whether the athletes go on to wrestle at districts or not.
