The Francis Howell Central hockey team took on DeSmet High school for their last game of the normal season defeating in a 15-0 loss. For defenseman junior Dominik Renaud, the team’s lack of players was the breaking point of the game.

“It was a pretty tough game because I think three or four of our players were out so we had a pretty tough time. It was just a rough game all-in-all,” says Renaud.

For Renaud, a bad game ending their winning streak isn’t going to affect the determination the team has for going far in the Founders Cup.

“Our goal is to win. If we don’t, it will be kind of embarrassing because this year we kind of fell behind, so our goal is to win the Founders Cup,” says Renaud,

Although this game’s score board showed otherwise, for left wing freshman Brendan Westscott the overall season showed good team sportsmanship.

“I feel the season started off pretty low because of all the seniors that had left, but I think we all learned to work well together,” said Westscott.

For Westscott, getting their heads back in the game and focusing on not getting their hopes too high will help win in the upcoming playoffs.

“I think we just need to play as hard as we have been these past couple games. Make sure we get lots of shots and play aggressive,” said Westscott.

For freshman Ethan Taplin, learning to get over the loss of some games and focusing on their improving record is what gives the team hope going into playoffs.

“We just need to stay alive; keep playing. Leave it all on the ice and keep pushing forward,” said Taplin.

Central’s hockey team will hit the ice for their first playoff game to compete for the Founders Cup sometime next week.
