Speech and Debate Team Takes on Greater St. Louis

Public speaking, a common fear of many, is done for fun by the FHC Speech and Debate team. On Oct. 25 the team participated in the first GSL tournament of the season at MRHHS resulting in two awards won by Natalie Walsh and Reed Easterling.

Junior Reed Easterling placed in congressional debate. “Congress is pretty time consuming, especially for me because I write a lot of our speeches, so it requires a decent amount of preparation, but nothing needs to be memorized” Easterling said.

Congress, one of the most difficult events requires that participants debate against each other on a few set topics. Although the events are time consuming the team finds it rewarding to be with each other and work together on speeches. Even those who did not place find happiness in those who did.
