Illuminated by a purple glow, junior Katie Huynh begins to pour a yeast mixture into the beaker. As the yeast meets the rest it combines to create a rapidly expanding foam. Huynh gazes towards the experiment, awaiting the outcome. Huynh strives to learn more constantly which is one of the reasons that she played an important role in founding the Girls in STEM club at Francis Howell Central. Huynh surrounds herself with things pertaining to science because she appreciates the effort that is necessary to understand them.

“We get to problem solve and even if we don't understand a part of what we are doing, we get to figure it all out ourselves and make sense of what is given to us,” said Huynh.

Huynh has found, with her fondness for science, that the importance does not lie in how much someone knows, but how much someone commits to learning.
