Loveable LaRue

Senior Amity Ianiri and LaRue discuss the assignment of the day together.

In any classroom, students want to feel heard and supported by their teachers. Sarah LaRue, an English and AP Lit teacher, makes it a priority for her classroom atmosphere to be laid-back, engaging, and passionate. Not only does she have a welcoming, bright personality, her room is decked with inviting decor that gives students a peek into her life and her love for books.

“I didn’t always want to be an English teacher, but always a teacher,” LaRue said. “When I got to college to be a middle school teacher, [I had] to be dual certified in two [fields]. I didn’t have a passion for anything other than English.”

To LaRue, it’s important to remember that not every student will have the same passion for literature the way she does. To successfully engage her class, she focuses on creating a personal connection with each student and teaching in a way that caters to their individual needs.
