For their first match of the season, the JV and varsity tennis teams played against Fort Zumwalt East. Their preceding weeks of practice paid off nicely, as the Spartans took the lead in a 6-3 win over the Lions. Varsity played a round of doubles and singles shortly after, but JV played only with doubles games, sometimes double-backing to match the amount of athletes on the East team. Following the match that took place on March 20, sophomore Carson Schafermeyer gave insight to his emotions directly before their first match.
“I didn’t feel very concerned or anything about it,” Schafermeyer said. “[Actually], I felt pretty confident, especially with my teammate [by my side].”
Schafermeyer is optimistic about leveling up to varsity soon, allowing him a wider variety of matches and an increased amount of court time. Central’s next game will be March 31, against St. Dominic, and will be held at our home courts at 3:30.
