Seniors make it to state

This past week three students made it into the All-State Choir competition. Seniors Anna Gingrich, Margaret Borgmeyer, Melissa Mossinghoff, Andrea Steinbach, Dustin Burton, Claire Henderson, Joshua Burns, Spencer Millfelt and Kyle Chumbley all auditioned for state, Gingrich, Mossinghoff, and Borgmeyer were chosen to perform.

“We are all so proud of them,” Director Elisabeth Baird said. “Only four people from each group in the Metro 8 district made it into the competition, and we are glad to have such a strong presence in this group.”

The students will be going to the Missouri Music Educators Association conference at the Tan-Tar-A resort in the Lake of the Ozarks on Jan. 25-28. The students will rehearse twice with local kids who made it, before going to the Ozarks for an intense three day rehearsal with Dr. Tim Sharp, who is known internationally for his work with choirs. Finally, Sat. Jan. 28, they will perform in a concert that is an accumulation of all their hard work.

Chumbley and Burns have also been chosen to be alternates for All-State. They will be chosen to replace someone in the event that they do not show up, or are late to practice.

“I’m so honored,” said Chumbley. “I made it last year, and I can’t believe I have been given such a great opportunity again. I’m ecstatic.”
