Student Council starts charity work

After the success of last year’s Toys for Tots charity drive, Student Council (StuCo) has brought back the toy drive again. This week, students are asked to give donations to their seventh hour teacher, and the class that raises the most, has a chance to win cookies and milk.

“Last year, we filled three ambulances and this year we want to do more,” junior Anna Killpack said. “We hope to have an average of 15 toys per seventh hour class to make this possible.”

In addition to the toy drive, StuCo is organizing a mother-daughter spa and shopping day on Jan. 14. The proceeds will go to the Make-A-Wish foundation to help grant a seven-year-old boy, who suffers from cystic fibrosis, wish of going on the Disney Cruise.

“We got a list of children from Make-A-Wish, and chose [him] because we related him to [alumnus] Michelle Neukirch, who died of Cystic Fibrosis,” junior Hannah Johnson said. “Our goal is to raise about $5,000 to be able to fulfill his wish.”
