The girls were nothing shy of nervous when they found out that they would have to play Francis Howell in the Class 4 District tournament, Howell has always been a powerhouse team in volleyball, and they Spartans have always had a hard time coming on top of the Vikings. Nonetheless, the Spartans went in with high hopes.

The Spartans lost the 1st set 18-25, a steep loss in the game of volleyball, but they were determined to gain back some momentum. Into the 2nd set, the Spartans came out strong and fast, forcing a lot of mistakes out of the Vikings. In the end of the 2nd, the Spartans took the set, 22-25. Into the 3rd, both teams were tired, but fought their hardest to come out on top of their opponent. The Spartans held a 5 point lead for a lot of the last set, but the Vikings came back strong and took the lead. Howell Central lost to Howell 19-25.

The next day of play, the Vikings played St. Dominic Crusaders, who had been fourth last year in Class 3, and expected to win Districts in Class 4 since it is an “easier class”

Against all odds, Howell pulled off an upset and beat Dominic in the District Championships.
