As winter sports start to wrap up, many are starting to compete in their Gateway Athletic Conference (GAC). The dive team concluded theirs on Feb. 5, at the St. Charles Rec-plex. Central divers junior Audery McCann and sophomore Siryniti Crain competed against several districts in the city, all taught by the same coach Dave Nielsen.
“It’s very different from a lot of other sports, because your only competitor is yourself for the most part. You practice so hard, and nobody sees the work you put in behind the scenes to make the dives.” said McCann.
Ending the competition in 1st place, McCann explains the difference between diving and other mainstream sports, but they all have a common theme. That is, hard work pays off.
