This past week, the girls varsity soccer team consisted of the girls being involved in the Fort Zumwalt East/South Tournament.
“Overall, I believe it has been a good tournament,” said Coach Chris Barth.
The first game was a heart-breaker, according to Barth, because they lost against Pattonville (who were second in state last year) in the second half when the score jumped to 3-2 with only four minutes left in the game.
“It was a very tough loss but our team played great and battled all game,” said Coach Barth.
In their second game they played Hazelwood Central and beat them 1-0 with 47 seconds left in the second half.
“This week our defenders have really played some great soccer and will limit the other players’ scoring chances in our upcoming future games,” said Coach Barth.
Freshman Katie Wood, left midfielder, and sophomore Karlee Schweigert, defense won the honors of the Captain Award for their hard work and distinguishing themselves on the field, according to Barth. Schweigert won it during the game against Hazelwood Central, and Wood received it during the game against Water Lou.The Captain Award is an award that is given to one player on the team for each game that a player shows the best effort and hard work.
