Whether it’s matches, duals, games, a showcase of a dance, but in this case, a basketball court, in sports there’s always a timer down to the last second. Athletes push themselves to their limit as every second counts and every last play matters going into the game and coming off the court matters. This past week on Jan. 20 the FHC boys varsity basketball team held a home game against St. Charles West high school and won at the last second by a score of 59-57. The game was intense, but the Spartans managed to continue to push themselves and were determined to secure the win, getting their last points within the last 5 second mark of the 4th quarter. In the end, junior Jack Brown made the final dunk of the game and everyone cheered the FHC varsity basketball team including the student sections and the players on the sidelines watching. Everyone ran over to the team coming onto the court cheering and jumping with excitement in the air. Moreover, junior Jamarious Britt talks about how he felt during this game and how he deals with high emotions throughout games.
“Although for myself I didn’t feel we played that well but we got the win, so I was very excited with everything,” Britt added on. “In situations where the pressure is on on throughout the game I usually try to just stay calm and keep a positive attitude in the game and while motivating myself to continue to do good is to just think about the next play and if there’s a mess up that happens then just to earn it back in the next play.” Britt finished off.
The next varsity boys basketball game will be held in the FHC large gym playing at &pm against their rival school, Francis Howel North high school.
