The Kyle Thrasher tournament has been going on for nearly three decades and on Jan. 30-31 at Francis Howell high school it was held once again. The tournament consists of schools from all over and this year 49 high schools attended, Central being one of them. The Spartans arrived early on Jan. 31 to practice before the tournament began at 10:00 am. Out of all 49 schools Central placed 16th with an overall score of 82. Junior Owen Eiswirth wrestled in the tournament, Eiswirth has been wrestling for 3 years and feels that at some points it’s exhausting but it’s a commitment that pays off. Eiswirth wrestled against Fort Zumwalt North and South, Holt, Howell, and Hillsboro. While Eiswirth wrestles he focuses on how he can win his match and motivates his team by keeping them locked in and optimistic. Eiswirth shares why he thinks the Kyle Thrasher tournament is important.
“It’s a really big tournament with a lot of good competition,” Eiswirth said. “It just helps to prepare us for the end of the season.”
The Spartan boys wrestling team will have their class 4 district tournaments through Feb. 20-21.
