With the Spartan Girls Wrestling having its district tournament on Feb.13, the girls dominated, coming in second place with many wrestlers advancing to state, and several Spartans had standout performances. Sophomores Kaitlyn Sparkman(130) and Peyton Holland, and junior Halen Phillips(155) played key roles in the Spartans advancement due to them winning their weight class. Their victories played a huge role in helping the Spartans place second in the tournament. The team has put in significant effort throughout the season to reach this point, with Sparkman speaking about the dedication required to balance academics, wrestling, and being in a second sport.
“Managing soccer, wrestling, and schoolwork was hard, but I would find time in between classes or practices to get as much work done as possible,” Sparkman said.“With the two sports, I would have to show up late to practice or leave early, depending on which sport took priority that week.”
The Spartans next and final battle of the season is the state tournament, taking place on Feb. 27 at the Mizzou Arena.
