Having culture within one’s community brings people together and allows others around them to socialize and make connections learning about different practices, traditions and the history behind each meal shared within it. Having the opportunity to experience other cultures and learn about it lets people try different foods, practices and relationships and lastly lets people explore countries and spark interest in visiting it in order to learn more about it. Every year the Epsilon Club holds a culture fair, it took place on April 21 in the FHC learning commons where the countries present consisted of Kenya, Ethiopia, Taiwan, Vietnam, Nepal, China, and Assyria. Senior Liya Fikru explains how she felt walking into the culture fair and running her own stand for her country, Ethiopia, while also it being her first time attending the culture fair and her opinion on it.
“I really enjoyed sharing my culture with others, everyone was so interested in learning about the ins and outs of Ethiopia and the origin behind it. It was fun to also go around and see other cultures as if I took a plane ride to the country to be able to explore all the foods, traditions, languages and be able to connect with other students that I didn’t think I would,’” Fikru said. “It was such a warm and welcoming environment while meeting parents as well and getting their compliments on the country and coffee they tried that we had brought for our table.”
The FHC epsilon beta club will hold another culture fair next year in the spring time.
