Spotlight Players warm up for spring production

The Spotlight Players are busier then ever in the first weeks of this semester. Thirty students traveled to Missouri State University for the State Thespian Conference Jan. 6-8, and according to Theater Director Michelle Moll, the trip was a success.

“There were various workshops and shows that the students had the opportunity to attend,” said Ms. Moll. “We also had a few students audition for the 30-plus colleges that were in attendance. Overall, it was a great weekend.”

Upon returning from the conference, the Spotlight Players began preparations for the spring production called “Seussical the Musical.” Applications were distributed for positions on cast and crew, the group began a butter braid and cookie dough fundraiser to raise support for the show, and auditions were scheduled for this past week.

The first day of auditions were scheduled for Tuesday and took place as planned. However, due to school being closed because of weather conditions yesterday and today, the second day of auditions and call-backs have been rescheduled for Monday and Tuesday of next week.

“We’ve only had one day of auditions, and we are looking forward to the final day as well as callbacks. We’ve already seen a lot of great talent,” said Ms. Moll. “I hope to see a plenty of risk taking and creativity shine through during this process.”

As far as the show goes, Ms. Moll already has some ideas about how to get her cast into character.

“After we cast the show and organize all the crews we will start with rehearsals,” said Ms. Moll. “We will be working on developing characters and reading some of the Dr. Seuss books and maybe watching a little bit of ‘Horton Hears a Who.’”
