Sophie Rosser is a Staff Photographer in her second year of FHC Publications. She is an officer in Student Council, Spanish Honor Society, and Central Outreach, and is on the girls tennis and track teams. She is excited to explore photography in her last year at FHC.

Award in hand, boys volleyball Coach Steven Le smiles as he receives the title of MSHAA Coach of the Year for the 2023 - 2024 season. Last year Le coached the varsity boys volleyball team to the state championships where they won second place in the finals.

Setting Precedents

After winning the set, junior Mae McAdow jumps in the air as she celebrates getting to go into another set. After losing the first two sets Francis Howell Central went on to win the next two sets which brought them into a tiebreaker against Howell.

Behind a sea of their teammates, the Spartans on the court celebrate winning a close point. The energy of the team was felt on and off the bench as managers and teammates would build eachother up whether the point was won or lost.

As the ball accelerates towards the floor, senior Jordan Smith dives forward to prevent her team from losing the point. Throughout the game, Smith kept her eye on the ball and prepared for Howell's spikes before contact was made by the opposing team.

Following a drawn-out point, senior Addie Henderson and her team jump and cheer in excitement. On Sept. 24, the girls volleyball team faced Howell in a close back and forth battle, eventually losing the set 3-2.

In order to stop the ball from hitting the ground, senior Jordan Smith contorts her body backward, allowing her to reach and set the ball. Although the libero is often responsible for reaching awkwardly placed balls, it is everyone's responsibility to prevent the ball from hitting the ground.

Senior Jordan Smith flies through the air as she prepares to spike the ball over the net. Smith was fed multiple spikes throughout the game which allowed her to win multiple points against Howell.

After winning the previous point senior Jordan Smith jumps in the air to increase her power while serving. In order to serve the ball, a team must win the previous point while also alternating their server with the next player in rotation.

Dressed in her warm up uniform, junior Mae McAdow works on receiving the ball after hard serves or hits. During warmups the girls went back and forth between bumping, setting and spiking the ball.

Sophomore Sivani Kandel tracks the tennis ball as she warms up for her doubles match against North Point. Kandel had been playing consistantly all season, which allowed her to play higher junior varsity doubles teams every game.
