This Tuesday the Spartan track and field team hosted the Don Muench Invitational. There were seven teams that attended, including Fort Zumwalt West, Fort Zumwalt North, Fort Zumwalt East, Incarnate Word Academy, Marceline, St. Charles and the Spartans.
In the girls 4×800 meter relay the girls team took second among the teams with a total time of 10:49.07. The girls also took second place in the 4×200 meter relay with a overall time of 1:42.81. The boys took third in the same event with a time of 1:38.38. The girls track team also placed first in the 4×400 meter relay with a time of 4:28.04.
Individual medalists at the meet were juniorĀ Alyson Berck for the girls team, taking second place in the 400-meter dash with a time of 63.56; junior Brandon Haupt, who placed first in the shot put with a distance of 41-11.25; and senior Corey Scharf, who took first in the 400-meter dash with a time of 49.63.
According to Scharf, the team has been building up for the end of the season meets all year.
“That is what any team in any sport works for all year is to do well in the tournaments at the end of the year,” said Scharf. “In our case, we work towards the end of the season meets. It is our goal to do well in those meets.”
